Language

Korean is the official language of both North Korea and South Korea . It was influenced by the Chinese language in the form of Sino-Korean words which makeup 60% of the vocabulary. In ancient times the language was written using Chinese characters but today it is mainly written in Hangul, the Korean alphabet.

Hangeul
Hangeul is one of the most highly acclaimed alphabets in the world for its scientific design and excellence. It was originally designed for King Sejong during the Joseon Dynasty. It was meant to replace the Chinese alphabet that Korea was using prior to the Hangeul. Being of foreign origin, Chinese characters are incapable of capturing uniquely Korean meanings. Therefore, many common people have no way to express their thoughts and feelings after this proclamation of the king Korea created its unique alphabet.
